Reading small print is something that I’ve been struggling with for a little while now. However, I’ve always been so grateful for my vision. I’ve had a unique journey with regards to my eyes and staying on top of my eye health is very important to me.

My journey started off at Sick Kids, feeling terrified while sitting in a long exam room. The result of that first visit was that I had to wear an eye patch to strengthen my weaker eye. Those were not fun times, although my Mom did help make it a bit more enjoyable by letting me pick a sticker out to decorate my eye patch!

We all know that our bodies go through changes as we age.
Some of these changes are more subtle than others. Some of these changes affect our daily lives more than others. Changes in our eyesight is one of the examples of a change that can affect our day to day life significantly. The changes often start off so subtly that we don’t even notice, but then it hits us: WE CAN’T READ THE MEDICINE BOTTLE. I.AM.NOT.GETTING.OLD. I don’t feel old, therefore I am not old – that is my motto and I’m sticking to it!

Reading small print has been getting more and more difficult for me in the past year.

Specifically, I’ve been having more challenges with focusing my eyes while reading medicine bottles and any small print, including reading on my cellphone! GASP! That’s right! I used to be able to roll over, if I couldn’t sleep, grab my phone and read until I got tired. It is no longer an option to grab my phone without my glasses on first!

I’ve been in denial about it, but today it was confirmed. My eyes are aging, despite the fact that I don’t feel like I’m aging.

As we age, our eyes age with us, putting us at risk for some common eye-health concerns. That is why it is so important that we place a priority on our eye health. If you haven’t received regular eye exams*, now would be the time to start! If it has been a while since you have had your eyes checked, I encourage you to visit Pearle Vision to book an appointment now!

During my recent visit to Pearle Vision, I felt comfortable and put at ease knowing that they had my best interest at heart. The doctor who looked after me, Dr. Monica Lee, took the time to learn about ME. She was able to then give me very specific tips that will help me with my eye sight, given my lifestyle. I spend A LOT of time in front of a computer screen almost every single day. She took the time to describe some eye exercises that I should consider doing in order to improve my eye health and comfort.

After my appointment, I spent some time look at the wide selection of frames. Last year marked a year of a self-discovery phase of my life, trying to find the new me. I suppose you could call it a mid-life crisis of sorts. I still consider myself on this journey and I have almost come to terms with the fact that this might be a life-long journey that I have embarked on with many “ah-ha” and “ta-da” moments!

I am convinced that a new pair of FUN eyeglass frames will help me feel like myself! The “me” that is trying to break through, and the wonderful and kind people at Pearle Vision were fully on board for helping me to find the perfect frame for me!

Check out the selfies that I took while I was there…

I will be reading small print in style!

Will you give me your opinion of which glasses suit me the best?
I’d love to hear your thoughts!
