The sun shines, the snow melts, flowers blossom and the clocks spring forward. Spring is all about new beginnings – feels refreshing right? Spring fever and the need to tidy, sort, purge and clean all go along with that transition from winter to spring.

They say the kitchen is the heart of the home and it couldn’t be more true. It’s the one room that buzzes all day long, and one that is used so often – it’s no wonder it gets so dirty! Spring is a time when the kitchen needs that good deep clean while also tackling the common areas that need some decluttering and reorganizing.

After all, when a kitchen is clean, tidy, and organized – it’s a joy to cook in!

Kitchen Spring Cleaning Checklist:

Fridge – Check expiry dates and check for half-empty containers. This is a good opportunity to make your grocery list of all the essentials, and ensure healthy foods are within eye level and easy reach – a trick into choosing healthier options. Once all food items have been gone through, it’s time to wipe down the inside. Don’t forget to pull it out from the wall and clean the exterior as well as the floor.

Freezer – Just like the fridge, go through items which might have been there too long. You might even find 4 opened bags of vegetables in there! Repackage what needs it, and plan to use the older items first by putting them front and centre. Don’t forget to wash the ice cube trays as well.

Pantry – Check all items’ expiry dates and this includes spices. Throw away any expired, old, stale or inedible food – and donate any opened food that isn’t needed. We should take bets on how many opened boxes of crackers or cookies in our pantries, perhaps even some strays that made their way to the very back of the shelf.

Drawers – Sort and organize utensils, and don’t forget to wash their organizers. While you have everything out, wipe out the drawers {and knobs} and replace any tattered drawer liners. Don’t forget that junk drawer – we all have one {or two} in the kitchen. Put things back neatly and organized.

Cabinets – Just like the drawers, sort through items and check expiry dates or stale items. I bet there’s plenty in that baking cupboard! Wipe shelves {and knobs} and replace liners if needed. Put things back neatly and organized and don’t forget to clean the trash and recycling cans.

Countertop – Even though this is an area that is cleaned more often than others in the kitchen, there are areas of the countertop that needs that deep clean. Examples include utensil jars, small appliances, toaster crumb trays, the inside of the microwave, backsplash, and even the knife blocks. Don’t forget to descale the tea kettle and coffee carafe!

Oven – While we’re at it, clean the inside of the oven {hopefully you have self-cleaning}. This is a good time to pull out the oven and wash the back and sides of it – along with the floor.

Miscellaneous – Don’t forget to also wash and clean any curtains, baseboards, chair cushions, table legs, floors and windows. As well, those trash and recycling bins could probably use a deep clean after a long winter as well. Hopefully some nice weather allows them to air dry in the sun!

Dishwasher – To get the inside clean without effort at all, use Finish® Dishwasher Cleaner. It’s such an easy and effective product maintain the appliance – and make it sparkle!

Finish® Dishwasher Cleaner works by safely and effectively breaking down and removing mineral build up that’s inside your machine, including hard-to-reach parts like the heating element and sprayer arms.

Check out my before and after photos from my recent use of Finish® Dishwasher Cleaner. Though I should note that my before’s aren’t too filthy since I actually clean the inside of my dishwasher each month as suggested.
