Out of all the things we have tried this year, and it’s a lot, there are some things we saw people loosing their minds over, and when we say “people” in most cases we are including ourselves here at Addicted.
Certain dishes and drinks this year held the spotlight due to the fact most can be done in so many wonderful ways, the mighty caesar for example, made with so many different types of liquor, so many garnishes, thus so many perfectly different options.
Which leads us to the four standouts of the year:
Lowbrow Becomes Highbrow
Bacon Mac and Cheese
Mac and cheese will always be a classic but this year more then ever we saw so many different choices when it came to the staple dish, like the truly delicious Bacon Mac and Cheese from Blade and Skillet.

Bacon Mac & Cheese with Hickory Sticks:
1 Cup of Macaroni
4 Strips of Bacon
1/2 a Cup of Milk
2 Large Spoonfuls of Cream Cheese
Parmesan Cheese
Hickory Sticks
1. Bring a pot of salted water to a boil. When boiling add the macaroni and cook for 8
2. In a skillet, cook the bacon on medium high heat for 5 – 7 mins or until crispy.
3. On high heat, melt a nub of butter, add the milk, cream cheese in a pan and stir until it thickens – about 5 mins.
4. Take the macaroni off the heat, strain it, and stir into the sauce with a couple handfuls
of grated parmesan. Remove from the heat, add the bacon (chopped or crumbled) and mix around.
5. Stack a pile of mac and cheese in the middle of a plate, sprinkle with Hickory Sticks, a little more parmesan cheese, and salt and pepper to taste. Enjoy!
What’s Old is Old Again
The Fiesta Caesar
This year, next, 10 from now the caesar will always be an Addicted Favourite and Walters makes truly an amazing product that creates the best caesars.

Fiesta Caesar
2 oz mezcal (or tequila añejo)
5 oz Walter All-Natural Craft Caesar Mix, Well Spiced
splash fresh pineapple juice
dash habanero hot sauce
honey, cracked black pepper & course rock salt
seared prawn, fresh lime wedge
In a mixing glass with ice, mix mescal, Walter Caesar Mix, pineapple juice, habanero hot sauce, stir well. Rim glass with honey, cracked black pepper, course rock salt. Strain cocktail over fresh ice, garnish with a seared prawn and fresh lime wedge.
Bubbles for Everything
Rosemary Gin Fizz
This year it seemed that bubbles were everywhere, from Champagne, to sparkling wine, home made social and fizzy drinks so it makes perfect sense that we would have a soda makers and bubbly drink on our list this year.

Rosemary Gin Fizz

¾ cup gin
3 – 4 sprigs of rosemary
½ cup water
½ cup sugar
Fill the flavour chamber of your Bonne O sparkling beverage system with rosemary Syrup (create by adding a few sprigs of rosemary to half cup of water and half cup of sugar, stir and bring to boil, let simmer 10 minutes then cool syrup) and place carbonator in carbonation chamber.
Fill bottle with 3/4 cup of gin, a few ice cubes and top up to the rim with cold water. Close up the system, press the button and sparkle!
Sharing is Caring
Roasted Rack of Lamb with Triple Crunch Mustard Crust
Sharing was really caring this year as it seemed like everywhere we went this year was family style dinning, share plats, and table spreads for the picking, so it comes as no surprise that our last is getting your perfect event catered so you can have more then enough to share.

So that about wraps the hot eats and cool treats that we think will be some of the stand-outs for 2016 based on recent events.
