Whistler in the Summer is just as fabulous as it is in the Winter. We are not a ski family, so we especially adore this beautiful escape in the Summer. The weather is usually warm and dry and there are lakes, mountains and great shopping and eatery options. I’ve written about the Fairmont Chateau Whistler in the Summer for families in the past as we’ve been fans for some time.

Our favourite hotel stay in Whistler is the Fairmont Chateau. It is in the Upper Village, in the center of all the fun activities including the Farmer’s Market, the base of Blackcomb and more (I’ll write about the activity-centric location in a post next week).

The Fairmont Chateau Whistler will always be our first choice for Summer family getaways and here’s why:

All of the dining options in the hotel (including room service) offer kids menus. The options are healthy and yet kid-friendly. Not many of the restaurants in the village are particularly kid-friendly.

The location of the Fairmont is in the Upper Village so it’s about a 10 minute walk into the main Whistler Village. If the weather is cooler or you simply want a lift, the hotel offers a shuttle with three stops around the village. They come by about every 15 minutes at each stop. If you just want a ride over to a particular restaurant or hot spot, they also have private car service.

A robust list of dining options include the Portobello, the Fairmont’s most casual dining option which is a deli & cafe; the Wildflower with fine dining and an amazing daily breakfast buffet, and the Mallard lounge. I also love the poolside bar and snack service.

Kids robes, specialty toiletries for kids, high chairs in all the restaurants, cribs upon request, it’s all available here. You can also request a fridge for your room if the small bar cooler already there is not sufficient.

Splashtime with the kids has never been more fun (and easy!) With three outdoor hot tubs, one indoor hot tub, an indoor/outdoor pool that is kept very warm year-round, and a lap pool, this hotel has the largest outdoor swimming area in Whistler. There are also cabanas which can be rented, poolside drink and snack service, an ice cream bar, and plenty of soft loungers available. All pool towels are also kept right at the pool area.

It’s simply lovely and includes everything your family could possibly need. Smoothies, fresh omelette and egg station, pastries, breads, yogurts, dry cereals, various meats (even deli options) and a fantastic line of in-house teas makes this the only buffet I would recommend, as I’m not typically a buffet fan.

There will be more to come in a separate post about the location and it’s proximity to the various summer local activities, but you just can’t beat it. We love the Summer Farmer’s Market every Sunday right outside the hotel, the Fun Zone, Blackcomb base to experience the Peak to Peak and plenty more.

Do you have a pet you like to bring along on your travels? Look no further, you will always see a family dog or two tagging along through the grand lobby or tied up in the shade near the pool.

At the Fairmont Chateau Whistler, you will be happy to feel like they’ve thought of everything. Umbrellas for a rainy day? Yes. A daily newspaper? Yes. Hand sanitizer and sunscreen dispensers throughout common areas? Yes. Robes and slippers? Yes. There is also a Spa I keep meaning to try out (hey, there’s always next time!).

I always look forward to at least one summer getaway in Whistler. If you’re a ski family, this is a great choice for ski-in/out as well!

* Thank you to the Fairmont Chateau Whistler for hosting my family, we will be happy to continue choosing you first (and all opinions expressed are my own).
