Resuscitated Style To Vogue or Bust SHOP THE POST Coat, bag & scarf c/o Aritzia, jeans c/o Mavi Canada, Céline sunnies c/o SmartBuyGlasses, Zara ankle boots, watch c/o Daniel Wellington, jewelry c/o Leah Alexandra The months between the holidays and the kickoff of spring are usually characterized by a few key things: 1) some overzealous gym attendance, 2) kicking it into high gear with work and 3) a serious lack of sartorial inspiration. During the holidays, we have the welcome distraction of sequins and other party-apropos looks to wear, and come spring, we have a whole new season with a whole new roster of trends to look forward to (and less layers, of course). But in between? Pretty much you keep wearing the same winter pieces again and again until the temperatures finally warm up/you want to burn all your clothes. I was feeling distinctly uninspired last week so took it upon myself to figure out ways to revive my winter wardrobe during this in-between period – click through to discover 3 unbelievably easy ways to fall in love with your wardrobe again! Photos by Alicia Wrap It Is there anything as effortlessly chic as a blanket scarf? (That was a rhetorical answer, and the answer’s “no” just FYI). Tossed loosely around your neck, belted or worn in an oversized wrap around your shoulders, it not only adds that extra warmth that we need so desperately in the winter (well, maybe just myself and other cold-blooded types need it “desperately”), but it also adds major visual interest while completely updating your outerwear. Both this Aritzia blanket scarf and this classic camel coat have been major go-to’s lately but together, the coat is given a whole new lease on life this winter. Invest in the Sunnies You’ve Lusted After Yes, maybe there won’t always be reason to wear them (if you’re in the Pacific Northwest, you’ll likely also get a lot of rain), but on the rain-free days or best of all, the days the sun graces us with its presence, having those new Célines or Miu Miu shades that elevate your whole look will make a world of difference (and get you seriously excited to traipse outside, another tougher feat to pull off during the winter months). Layer Like a Pro In another outfit post coming your way soon, I wore this exact same Aritzia coat but layered it up with some stripes (see this post too for some more layered-stripes inspo) and it gave an otherwise truly classic piece a whole new look. Ideas to try when it comes to layering: play with pattern (like the stripes) allowing the sleeves to peek through, wearing a chunky knit or playing with proportion by pairing it with a dress/skirt instead of the usual skinny jeans uniform so many of us go for.On a non-style related note, I just really want to pay a tribute to the incomparable David Bowie. I started bawling last night when I found out he had passed, I think because like so many, I just never thought he would not be here. Weirdly enough, I was just listening to Valentine’s Day that he only recorded a few years ago earlier yesterday – it never even occurred to me that he would not be actively recording, putting out the most amazing music at an age when most of his peers had decided to stop creating. There are a few bands or artists that really helped me sort through the less-than-amazing teen phase that I experienced and his music well before that period and well afterwards always connected, inspired and lifted me up. So thank you, Bowie, for inspiring us with your music, for being a true renegade and for being you. You will be missed but thankfully, we’ll always have you through your music. Rest in peace.
