CO/GAMER: 5 Games of March You Must Play Jon Scarr It’s only March, and we have already seen a whole slew of juicy games released this year. Keeping with the trend on non-stop hits, March is filled with some pretty big games that will keep you busy the whole month long and beyond. Here are the five games of March 2016 that you must play: Mortal Kombat XL (March 1st, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC) Fighting fans looking for the ultimate Mortal Kombat experience have had their prayers answered. NetherRealm Studios’’ latest installment in the legendary Mortal Kombat franchise, Mortal Kombat XL, includes everything from Mortal Kombat X, all the content from the DLC Kombat Pack 1, and everything from the newly released Kombat Pack 2. To put it bluntly, Mortal Kombat XL is packed to the brim with content. New playable characters include Xenomorph from Alien, Leatherface from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre movies, Triborg, and Bo’Rai Cho. The same cinematic experience and gameplay that you have come to expect from the Mortal Kombat is here making Mortal Kombat XL of on the most brutal Kombat experiences ever. The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD (March 4th, Wii U) In an attempt to hold us over until The Legend of Zelda releases later this year, comes yet another Zelda HD remake from Nintendo—The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD. Originally released on the GameCube and Wii, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess is one of my favourite games in The Legend of Zelda series to date. This time around, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess is presented in a stunning 1080p HD resolution with revamped textures, better lighting, and improved gameplay. Some of the changes include a lantern to help find Poes, the need to collect fewer tears of light to progress through the game, and changing forms can be done easily with a single tap of a button. You’ll find bundled with game is a detailed Wolf Link amiibo, modeled after Midna and Wolf Link that can be used to open the Cave of Shadows. Not to be outdone, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD is also compatible with several other The Legend of Zelda amiibo from the Super Smash Bros. series. Come explore the vast lands of Hyrule, and a mysterious Twilight Realm in effort to restore balance to the world. Tom Clancy’s The Division (March 8th, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC) The Division takes place just a few weeks after a devastating pandemic has swept through New York City on Black Friday. Little by little, basic services are failing and a lack of food and water has set New York City into a state of chaos. As part of The Division, an autonomous unit of tactical agents, you take on the role of an agent who has set out to save society. With both a persistent and dynamic environment, The Division requires exploration and play-progression to be successful. You’ll team up with other Division agents in hopes to restore order and discover the source of the virus. One of the more interesting new IPs this year, Tom Clancy’s The Division looks to be another solid title from Ubisoft. HITMAN (March 11th, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC) One of the biggest changes to the latest release in the HITMAN franchise is its release structure. HITMAN is now a fully episodic game with a live component, which will allow gamers to play as Agent 47, an extremely well trained assassin, and perform contract hits on high-profile targets around the world. Starting with a Intro Pack, which contains a Prologue and Paris levels there will be two more locations and levels released over the next two months—Italy and Morocco. From there on we can look forward to seeing three additional locations by the end of 2016—Thailand, the US, and Japan. Square Enix and Io-Interactive will be releasing monthly content updates and weekly live events. After participating in the recent HITMAN beta, I am confident the HITMAN franchise will return to its former glory. Pokkén Tournament (March 18th, Wii U) Pokkén Tournament is a Pokémon and fighting fan’s dream game come true. Consisting of a collaboration between The Pokémon Company and BANDAI Namco, this game is set to deliver some of the most over-the-top action in a fighting game to date. Combining elements from the Tekken series with characters from the Pokémon universe get ready to experience never-before-seen battles between some of the most recognizable Pokémon characters. If you pick this game up at launch, you’ll get a limited-edition Shadow Mewtwo amiibo card that immediately unlocks the character in the game after tapping it to the Wii U GamePad. Additionally, you can perform various techniques made famous by the Pokémon series such as special moves and Mega Evolutions. With a focus more on action, as opposed to technical gameplay both hardcore and casual fans will enjoy Pokkén Tournament in their own way.
